Over the years, significant numbers of SCM members in Bangladesh are becoming ex members due to ending of their studentship and entering into professional and family life. As Bangladesh SCM is an absolute student organization so the ex members have very limited scope to get together and express their solidarity under the banner of Bangladesh SCM. In this circumstance, a clear demand has gradually been raised from the end of ex SCMers over the time to make a platform aiming to create greater solidarity among the ex SCMers and their family members through social, cultural and spiritual development so that they can play positive role in the family, society, churches and the nation as well in the name of the Jesus Christ.
The dream of the ex SCMers of Bangladesh has finally come into true through the official launching of ex SCMers forum named ‘Sanko’ on 1st December 2007 and another history has been written in the book of Bangladesh SCM at the time of its glorious 50 years anniversary. ‘Sanko’ is a Bengali word. It is very similar to the meaning with ‘small bridge over the canal’. Geographically Bangladesh is a river basin area. All the rivers in Bangladesh are scattered into numbers of canal. Canal is the most common features in the rural area of Bangladesh. With the help of ‘Sanko’ people crosses the canal and create link and solidarity with the other areas of people. Based on that deeper understanding, the name ‘Sanko’ is emerged with a view to bond relationship among the ex SCMers.
The Most Honorable Arch Bishop of Bangladesh Paulinus Costa STD, DD, has inaugurated the launching of Sanko as the Chief Guest while Rev. Sushil Ch. Bose, President, Bangladesh Baptist Church Fellowship, Prof. Rina Das, President, YWCA of Bangladesh, Mr. Marcel A. Gomes, President, National Council of YMCAs of Bangladesh, Advocate Promod Mankhin, Former MP and President, Bangladesh Christian Association, + Rev. B D Modal, Patron, Bangladesh SCM and Mr. Alison Subrata Baroi, Chairperson, Bangladesh SCM were present as Special guest. The program was chaired by the Convener of Sanko Mr. Jhantu Bayen and moderated by Member Secretary of Sanko Mr. Prodip Sarker. Near about 150 ex SCMers, their family members and well-wishers attended this significant event.
