April 2-5, 2008
The venue was Igreja Ekaristi, an IPTL Church located in Camoro, north of Dili, capital town of East Timor. Seventy young people from universities and schools in Dili and Bocaoca participated in the 2nd National Congress of Movimento Estundante Cristao Timor Leste or SCM Timor Leste from April 2 to 5, 2008. The long awaited Congress, which was postponed twice in 2006 and 2007 due to the unstable political condition in the country was a resounding success.
With the theme, “Jesus halo orasaun atu ita sai ida” (Joao 17:21), the Congress highlights include the amendment of the new constitution, reports from the chairperson and auditor and planning for the next three years (2008-2011). Undoubtedly, the highlight of the event was the election of officers, with the following members elected to serve the movement for 3 years: Antonio da Silva, chairperson; Jacinto de Arroyo, Vice-chairperson; Natalia de Vasconselos, Vice-chairperson; Domingos Pinto, 1st General Secretary; and Francisco Soares, 2nd General Secretary.
According to Nina Naoyan, WSCF and FIM intern in Dili, “this is the first time that the students participated in this kind of event. Every step is a learning process to gain more experience and knowledge in building a movement.”
