Leaders of SCMP joined other national student
and youth organizations in supporting Rodolfo
“Jun” Lozada, the star witness in the ZTE-NBN
Broadband Scam involving the Philippine
president and her family.
Members of Student Christian Movement of the Philippines joined the world in celebrating and commemorating International Women’s Day in different parts of the Philippines.
The protest rally held at the historic Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila focused on the rampant corruption under Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Various women workers, peasants, women from the business sector, church and youth stood at the front ranks of the rally, as they marched to Mendiola bridge leading to Malacañang Palace.
“Even a woman president becomes an agent of injustice against her fellow women. We commit to join the many voices of women who stand up and say, go away Gloria!” Quizon said.
Protest rallies in the Philippines mounted since February after Engineer Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada Jr. exposed the alleged involvement of many Cabinet officials, First Gentleman Mike Arroyo and the Arroyo herself over the anomalous ZTE National Broadband Network deal with the government of China. SCMP, along with other youth groups, have formed Youth ACT Now! (Youth for Accountability and Truth Now!), a broad alliance of Filipino youth against corruption and for truth and accountability.
